Grammar, like all the other components of language arts work in sync. Writing, reading, spelling, vocabulary...they all fit together. For Years 1-3, we have provided the Treasures program, which combines reading, writing, and grammar, and have outlined to have two levels done per year. All of the Treasure workbooks have six units with five lessons each which translates to 30 weeks of work if you only do one lesson a week and 15 weeks of lessons if you do two. If you find that is too much, slow it down to one a week until your child is able to perform two a week. Two a week means two days for each lesson and that is very manageable. If that means it takes an extra year to accomplish everything, that's okay. What is important is that your child learns...it's not about checking off boxes as fast as possible.
If you choose not to use the Treasures reading program, you can still download the reading and grammar workbooks and incorporate them into your language arts program as they are not dependent on the reading texts. In fact, you will find them to be immensely useful in helping your child further his skills. For reading, simply read lots of books together and continue working on having your child advance through leveled readers.
From Year 4-6, we switch over to a more writing centered text: Houghton Mifflin's English series. These are excellent books and making scheduling easy. The textbooks include reading, writing, and grammar instruction. These textbooks are impossible to find online as PDFs, so buy them used (they are less than $10 used). If you can't afford them, we've provided workbooks you can download to create your own program.
